Younglyness

Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live.

Younglyness

The purpose of training is to tighten up the slack, toughen the body, and polish the spirit.

Younglyness

I think fitness is important. I think a healthy lifestyle is important. I think putting positive energy out there is important and just staying connected with the people.

The human body is the best picture of the human soul.

Younglyness

Exercise is done against one's wishes and maintained only because the alternative is worse.

Yoga Poses for Neck Pain

Neck pain is associated with the upper back and shoulders.  Repetitive everyday activity and certain yoga postures such as inversions can intensify those pains as well.

Inflamed, tight, overstretched, or underused muscles in the shoulders, rotator cuff and upper back can affect the neck and surrounding areas causing headaches, back and shoulder pain. Certain every day actions that require rotation of the head may be taken for granted when feeling healthy.

7 Hip Opener Yoga Poses to Release Negativity

It’s a pose of ultimate power, with your entire body engaged – including the hips. With proper alignment, you can work towards freeing up the hip joint and release any pent-up tension, both physically and emotionally.

It's not exactly easy to shut your brain after a hectic day. Not so surprisingly, the grind of a busy day can make shutting down and falling asleep a little on the tough side.

The solution? Yoga. Creating a ritual to relax the body and calm the mind can help you fall asleep sooner, sleep deeper, and for longer time. According to one Duke University Medical Center study, yoga can actually improve your overall sleep quality and reduced the need for sleep aids.

Yoga Poses for Beginners, 17 Poses for Getting Started!

Some of the yoga poses are referred to as “two-sided” poses, which means that they should be repeated on both sides to make sure that you are working and stretching muscles in both sides of the body evenly.  They will say “repeat on both sides” at the end of the instructions.

We will open up with a few important stretches, and then work into other poses for balance, strength, and flexibility. Before we get started, make sure check out our latest video on the Health Benefits Yoga, below.

The Best Exercises for Inner and Outer Thighs

You can do all the moves using only your body weight but be sure to squeeze legs, glutes, and abs to create your own resistance. Otherwise step it up a notch with a resistance band (a.k.a. TheraBand) for the outer thigh moves and ankle weights (we used this 1.5-pound set from Sports Authority) for the inner thigh moves.

And go slow: If you fake it by rushing the reps and kicking your legs around, you won't see results.

How it works: Start by lying on your left side and complete the prescribed number of reps for the outer thigh moves targeting the right leg. Then complete all the moves for inner thighs targeting the left leg. Repeat all moves on the opposite side. For best results, add these moves onto a cardio workout and repeat up to 5 times per week.

8 Yoga Moves to Strengthen Knees

Yoga can be daunting for those with knee problems. Unfortunately, that’s a lot of us, myself included. Below are the yoga poses I used to strengthen my knee after surgery.

Three years into my yoga career, I suffered a meniscus tear. Physical therapy, ice, and painkillers were not enough to ward off surgery. I had to go under the knife. My bones and tendons blocked the doctors from seeing the exact location of the tear in ultrasounds, so exploratory surgery had to be performed before the surgeon could fix the problem.

By the time they were done, my leg looked like it had been beaten with a meat tenderizer and my muscles and soft tissue were in a sorry state. Giving up my career as a yoga instructor was not an option for me, so I took the time to learn how to protect my knee by strengthening the muscles that support it.
